i just purchased a plant (anubia sp) in a pot. i've looked up some info on how to plant it. one sit says to removed it from the pot and the other says to let it grow in the pot. what do i do? do i bury the pot or set it on top of the gravel? this is my 1st aquatic plant.

well i have some potted plants as well, you should keep the subtrate the potted plant is in, you can remove the plastic part and just plant the plant in the subtrate, the subtrate is beneficial to the plant and the roots will grow faster in it, and evenutally will absorb it up.... then you can remove the rest of what is left (after a long while)

but i have one that i just kept in the plastic covering, and it does fine...

It's best to remove and plant in the substrate. But you have Anubia which is best attached to wood or rocks as it has a Rhizome, which if planted will rot.
