Hi , any one got any ideas on fast growing plants that do not require special treatment and tend not to be eaten by fish such as angles clowns silver dollar and torpedo barb ? many thanks

HI GEORGE

THE PROBLEM YOU'VE GOT IS HALF THE FISH YOU HAVE ARE NATURALLY VEGETARIAN, ESPECIALLY THE SILVER DOLLARS. BUT I USE THE FOLLOWING PLANTS IN MY HEADSTANDER TANK, AND THEY SEEM TO GROW FINE.

HYGROPHILIA POLYSPERMA
BACOPA AMPLEXAS
VALLISNERIA GIGANTEA
CRYNIUM BULBS, (ONION PLANTS)
JAVA FERN
ANUBIAS NANNA

HOPE THIS HELPS MATE.

Watch the all-caps, mate. In forum speak, it represents yelling, which isn't cool, and I know you're not doing. I agree with you, however, George has got some vegetarians there. Supposedly, some plants, like Java fern have a nasty taste to fish and are great to use. My honey gouramis used to munch on my hygro and bacopa, so probably not great for your silver dollars, but the other plants on the list above (Vallis, crynium, java fern, anubias) are great first plants to try. Later, if they are ignored or do well, you can try adding the hygro and bacopa. The vallis and the bulbs may need rootfeeding tabs (unless your fish are particularly messy), but the java fern and anubia will grow in just about any condition. It certainly doesn't hurt to try.

What is your lighting level?
