Hi I was just wondering if you plant experts can ID this for me. I have only had it in my tank for about 8 days in my 55gallon African cichlid tank. My lighting is 2 x 40w 120cm tubes, 1 white 1 purple. When I bought it the plant was very little, it was almost as tall and the bottom of my thermometer and in 8 days its almost out of the tank lol.

So yeh here are the pics anyway.

Myriophyllum aquaticum (water milfoil, parrot's feather)I think, it looks good, the cichlids are not munching on it?

Thanks!

I have seen them go for little nibles here and there on it, but there not attacking it like crazy, I bought two other plants when I got this one, and they seem to be attacking them two much more, one of them lost its hole main branch (found it floating one morning).

Is there any type of plants you guys recommend for use with African Cichlids? I got plenty of Rock in there so I just want some green to brighten up the tank a little.

that plants amazing I've had it in the past and even in a non planted tank it grew clean out the surface and into the hood and had to be trimmed every week, its available really cheaply too, I the stall opposite us on Donnington market used to sell bunches as thick as my arm for 70p!Ps. vallis would probably work in a chiclid tank as will anubias :good:

omg I cant believe this its already out of the water and its the same day as i took the pics above, how is this growth speed possible lol. I love this plant, looks good to and it was only $3 AUD

i get it free lol, i get it out of the wild
and i dont think thats water milfoil, its hornwort ( may be same thing)
and it can grow 2"+ a day with good lights/ferts/co2
