Hi.
I purchased this plant at the lfs, and it was listed as "micro sword"

IMAG0271.jpg

I've tried Google, but it does not look like any of the micro sword I can find there. It looks a lot like normal amazon swords, but not exactly. Plus, its much smaller and more compact.

I am trying to find out if the coloring is normal, or if I have a nutrient deficiency of some sort.

Micro sword looks like grass. I have some in my signature pic if you can see it. There are a lot of varieties of Echinodorus {Swords} Try searching Echinodorus images. Sorry I didn't have an answer but at least you can leave out the micro sword.

Thanks FF. You got me on track there....definitely echinodorus

After looking around I think it might be aquartica??

The ribs and stem in the leaves start out greenish/white when emerging from the center, but when the leaves fully develop the ribs turn rusty redish color. Thought it was Diatoms at first, but it is in the plant not on. The plant seems very healthy though...
Just trying to figure out if that's normal, or if I have a nutrient issue????

Thanks again!

I'm still pretty new to plants so I couldn't ID it from the picture, but I do have a few different swords. Watch it as it grows and you can confirm your guess. Someone might pop in here and help you out better then I did though. I haven't seen anything about reddish ribs being a nutrient problem my guess is that its just the plants coloring.

You should know in time if there's a nutrient problem. Some of my sword's leaves change color as they grow.
