i have access to haematite(iron) ore in the kidney form from source
i wonder if this would leach iron into my tank to the benefit of my plants ?
as it looks attractive in this form and could make a nice centre piece.

Yes it would, which can be detrimental to fish, and too much iron can be a problem with the plants.
