Hey guys,

what do you think of adding a pink kissing gourami to a 95 gal containing the following fish (all juveniles)

8 tiger barbs, 5 silver dollars, 2 pictus catfish, 8 giant danios

the stocking capacity does not worry me as i will be upgrading to a larger tank at some stage.

The question is more about compatibility?

I want a large fish that isnt too aggressive but can hold its own against the cheeky tiger barbs and silver dollars.

Do you think the kissing gourami is a good option?

Please offer suggestions if you have better ideas.

Attractive fish only please hhaa

thanks guys

When are you planning the upgrade? Because limited space can be bad before they reach maximum size.

Not entirely sure (never owned them) but the barbs might pose a problem but I could be wrong.

Not sure if a kisser will be okay with your stock. I had one that lived 13 years and grew to 12inches so they do grow big. Mine wasn't aggressive at all though.

I actually think Kissing Gs would be a good match with your other fish. They should be a similar level of toughness and movement tolerance as the others. I haven't thought about your overall stocking in terms of capacity though, so don't take it on that account, that would still need to be figured out.

~~waterdrop~~
ps. You'd want at least 2 of course so you'd have the possibility of seeing them kiss!

I was gutted to find they get so big or I would have thought about getting a pair!

I guess on some level you could almost view it as sad to have access to all this knowledge that forums give as at times it keeps you from some of the experiences that come from "innocent" mistakes. When I was doing all my tanks as a young person I had pairs of Kissing gouramis at least a couple times and people always got a kick of looking across the room and seeing them kissing in the tank. I was completely unaware at the time of how huge they could get (and I must have either given mine away before moving (likely) or they died or something..) WD

i had some and my tiger barbs ate them to shreds!... there slow so cant get away from the tigers

Yep mine died at a foot long so they do get big. They can become aggressive when older too but mine never was. I bought 2 small ones in 1995 but one died after a few months and I didn't buy another and the other died in 2008 after surviving two house moves and several outbreaks of white spot!

I would recommend them... Look at my entry in TOTM for May... I have 4 of them in my tank and they just blend in... They can be a nuisance when you have bigger fish in there... always trying to get a bit of mucus off their bodies, but fine with smaller fish... Don't think Tigers would be a threat... Get them.
