I'm sure every Betta owner knows their Betta can be picky little buggers.

Got a Betta from a fish farm. The farm where I got him is reputable and the go-to place for Bettas in my country.

So anyway, He has a 3 litre tank, with gravel and plastic plants, and Betta pellets (since he is my first Betta), but here's the thing -- he only wants to eat my guppy food.

I heard to try a variety of stuff, so I tried his betta food first, no show, he spat them out. Then I tried some freeze dried daphnia, he just balked at it. Guppy flakes just returned me a disgusted look. But when I dropped in some low grade guppy pellets (like loooooooooow grade, lol), he snapped them up immediately.

I've heard that feeding guppy food to bettas is a big nono, and all the more, looooow grade guppy pellets, but that's all he's taking in! Anyone have suggestions to why he doesn't want the betta pellets? The guppy pellets are a lot smaller than the betta ones, is that why he doesn't want them? If so, what other food can I get him? He doesn't to be off his food, just doesn't LIKE his food.. Tries a piece and scoffs it..

Thanks in advance, I'd love to have him eating, it's nearly been a week!

I have this issue when I buy my Bettas from pet stores they don't like to eat the food I have for them so I just starve them for a few days or just keep giving them food until they finally realize its all their getting they'll get hungry enough to eat the food you keep offering them

It's normal for bettas to go off their food for a week or so when you first get them. They will taste food and spit it right back out, totally normal. If you are feeding him pellets soak them in a little tank water for 10-15 minutes before feeding him so that they are easier for him to eat. This will also help to prevent problems with bloat.

I agree with the above posts. And, even if it's guppy food he's eating, at least its food.
Thought I might just mention about the plastic plant/s - they can sometimes tear bettas fins as they're generally not as 'soft' as silk or real plants so I'd just watch out for that :good: 3L is a little small imho, though there seems to be a fair amount of people generally who keep them like that, so if you've got a good w/c schedule it could probably work.

I tried that and my betta just starved to death... :-(
