Hi all. Im trying to start breeding. Ive done guppys really sussesfully, and am getting bored. Now i want to breed something interesting. Like Plecos or maybe a cichilid. ive cleared out all my tank and now all i have left are oscars, and my newest fish Pacu! Over the ast week i have filled my garage with second hand tanks. I now have ...
2-2 gal hex
2-5 gal hex
5-10 gal
2-20 gal, 1 long 1 tall
1-30 long
1-40 tall
2-55 long
There all being cycled so i have a week or to to pick fish. Well the smaller tanks are cycled. I want to breed rare fish something i can easily obtain in florida. But i just cant decide. Some nice colored angel fish? or some long finned albino oscars. Something that will do good in the tanks i have.

Gimee ideals!

thanks,
bUck

Do you want to breed something to sell, or just for the sake of breeding. If for resale then I'd go with a high yeild spawner which quickly reaches maturity. If not, pick the best-looking fish you can.

What I really want to know is how did you find all those used tanks in a week? :)

Much of what would work best depends on your local market. Even if you are not breeding to sell, if there is no one interested in taking the fish you have bred, your breeding program is dead in the water. Ask the local shops you deal with, & get involved in a local aquatics club.

Mozambican Mouth Brooders breed like wild fire!!!

They are easy to breed and are really lively cichlids.

I think that breeding eels would be SO cool!!!!

I don't mean to be the overstocking police, but just in case you weren't aware the pacu and oscars you already have will need bigger tanks, and with their growth rate, that might be priority.

I breed a few fish and if you want to breed something interesting in small tanks, go shelldwellers.

If you want something a bit more interesting, try some kind of tricky plec.

Killifish, Once tried and mastered then your hooked.

One day i would like to breed for profit, but for now theres a problem. I live within 5 miles from Segrest Farms and 20 miles from 5z fish. they almost supply every fish store in florida, and alot around the world. so theres no competing with them.

I got all my tanks from ebay, and a wanted post on craigslist.com. i got the 30 and 20 from ebay for 30$(with filters and heaters/powerheads)! I had the 10s, 5s, and 2s, from my guppys. and i got the 2 55s from people on craigslist, 1 for $50 and one for $30. and i built all the stands and hoods myself. And i previously had a 20 and 40.

I like the idea of rams. Germen blues i think are kind of easy. And they look cool. I bought a 6 pack of albino bristlenose plecos from aqua bid and they came in the mail last week. once they get bigger they should start breeding.

but i want something rare. I like my pacus cause you dont see them in everyone elses tank. (and they look like pirahnas!).

So something rare, but easy to breed? i think thats like an oximoron.

Anyone else got any ideas?

btw i know my pacu are gunna get big, but i have plans for them getting a huge tank within the year as soon as i decide if im moving or not. Im atempting to purchase my first home! maybe a 200 gallon? *dreams*

And what are you going to put the pacus in? 2000 gallons is more the size they need.

thats a little to big. i dont have a warehouse for that. when, if, they get that big ill deal with it then. why do ppl always turn post into a disscusion about overstocking. I didnt buy the fish they were rescued from a little 20 gallon tank a guy had i was talking to in my fish store, without me theyd be dead by now. whats wround with having a fish 30 inch fish in a 4 foot tank anyways? less water changes!

Try to breed fish that havent been bred yet (like most loaches) or some fish that can be bred but they are endangered and not many people breed them! (like Zebra Plecs)

You would be helping out the world, and aquarists!

i agree with this. also it would help to reduce prices. i have seen a breeding pair of zebra plecos go for $2500 on aquabid! sold single i have seen them as high as $150. it's amazing what they go for. maybe breeding htem can put more into the market so people can actually afford them.

as for the discussion of room for fish... like they said... it's better than dieing in a 20 gal tank. at least they're trying to let the fish have a better life. so relax a little. that's why people don't like posting things as they always get reamed for things that might not have nothing to do with their original post.

Sarcasm - sneering, jesting, or mocking a person, situation or thing. It is often used in a humorous or ironic manner and is expressed through vocal intonations such as over-emphasizing the actual statement or particular words. Example - " whats wround with having a fish 30 inch fish in a 4 foot tank anyways? less water changes!"

HAHA u guys make me laugh.

Well loaches arnt my thing. And zebras cost to much for me to play with. Id be so mad if i bought a 150 fish and i killed it!

Ive got 10 pure endles on the way. i havent ever seen these in my lfs.
Also have 6 Panda corys coming. I know alot of people want these.
And i have the (7)albino bs plecos, but there young. Some angels im waiting for(blue blushers), whatever these are. And im going shopping tomorow for fish. Ill probably come back with a hundred dollars worth of fish!
