My PH is sitting at about 6.0 I need to raise it up to 7.0.
The water when it goes in the tank is 7.0 but after a day it goes down 6.0 again.
Even if i use PH up next day its down again.
What is causing this ?
What can i use to stop it or to keep it up.

I am using neutral gravel and rocks and NO plants so its not that.
Not alot of natural sunlight gets to the tank either.

Help me please !!!

While I,m on this subject i have setup a seperate hospital tank with gravel and water transfered from my main tank.

The ph level in this tank is now Neutral !!!

so the only thing different in thie main tank is...
1. One of those rocks that are a beige type colour with red through it kinda like fossil looking thing if you know what i mean.

2. A Growlux light

3. Its near a window (Although the curtains were closed all day)

Any help is appreciated.

Can you give a few more details on the tank. Stocking list and aquarium size can always help.

Is the PH out of the tap 7, or after you do a waterchange the entire tank is at 7?

are u on about rainbow rock? got loads of reddish/orange strips goin throught it? if so it cant be this cause iv got loads of that in my tank and mine keeps to a steady 7.5

Community tank.
10 Neons
10 Platys
4 Silver Tips
3 Small Angels
3 Small Zebra Danios
3 Dwarf Gouramis
1 Algae Eater
36" x 15" x 18"
Fluval 4 Filter
150 Watt heater
30" 25 Watt light

Comes out the tap 7.0
Seperate tank with water and gravel transferred from the main tank is 7.0
main tank is off the scale.

So the water in the wee tank was 6.0 last night and today is 7.0

i saw a ph highering thing at wal mart (i got the ammonia lowering 1) cuz i didnt have enough time 2 cycle my tank

Hi Del,
this is puzzling for sure so I'm just going to throw out some suggestions.
The best thing I can think of would be do small water changes often. The metabolic activity plus the food that is added to the tank can wear down the waters buffering capacity causing a pH drop. Also, high fluctuating temperatures can drive down pH. The use of carbon or other filter chemicals can have the same effect.
Hope something in there will maybe help.

leave some tap water in a bucket overnight then see what the ph is

Tried that and the tap water stays at 7.0

Put the test vial with tap water under the light / hood and stays at 7.0 after next day .

Does anyone know if a different type of light can change the ph ?
It would have to be a pretty weird light - Remember, pH is a measure of acidity - literally, a logarithmic measure of how many H+ ions (cations, actually...*grin*) are in your water. H+ ions do not disassociate from H2O easily - this event is statistically rare - and I do not believe aquarium lights would be able to accomplish this.
