went into pets at home today to see there fish just for fun and was quite amazed apparently black moors are oranda's and most other fancy goldfish are too. Not that i think that for a second but it does make you wonder as none of there oranda's even had a hint of a wen. isn't that how an oranda is distinguished or am i just thinking too much into it?

makes me unhappy that they are even allowed to sell fish but suppose they are supplying the ubend generation

Happens alot with corals as well... I was sold a lump Acanthastrea as Montipora Digitata... They look nothing alike.

I use PAH a lot as my vet surgery is stationed in the shop so I am always in there for one reason or other with the whippets. I often wander over to look at the fish although I'm not tempted to buy any. There were a number of dead, dying, half eaten and one eyed fish in there last week, quite enough to put me off. I have also heard staff on several occasions explaining to first time would be fishkeepers how to set up their kids new fishtank. Apparantly, you just need to fill the tank with water, leave it for 3 days and then you can put your fish in. Now I only know a tiny teenth of all the stuff I think I will need to know about becoming a seasoned tank owner but to my ears, this is not sufficient advice to be giving someone. I like PAH and will continue to use it for my other needs, just not for fish.

It really is a shame to see staff in fish shops give the wrong advice just to make sales. Luckily my local Squires has an aquatic department with some very helpful and knowledgable staff. From my experience with them they ask people lots of questions before selling fish to them. Some customers even get the hump and leave. I've seen a lady turning customers away when they want to buy fish that are unsuitable for their tanks.

OK, no turning anything into a target at particular shops please, whatever your opinion of them may be.
