Petco Has Surprised Me

Yesterday, the wife, kids and I went into Petco for the first time in a long while looking for a new filter setup( decided to go with a Eheim). But when we first walked in we noticed a dramatic change in the layout of the store. All of the reptile cages were now on a computer controlled thermostat, and the aquariums were all prominantly displayed. On closer look, the fish area was uncluttered, nicely lit, and the tanks were very clean. Even to the point of some of them looked like they had all new gravel. There were maybe 2 dead fish in all of the tanks (maybe around 50 or so) that I saw. Even the new plant tank and other live plants seemed healthy. So while I was in there a short while ago I bought various plants to re-vitalize my tank and a piece of driftwood from the tank and a couple of nice sized bunches of java moss. If they keep this up I may have to do some more business there again.

It could have to do with Peta's up roar about Petco.

But who knows. Peta used to have a webpage dedicated to protesting Petco because of the care of all the animals there including reptiles, fish, birds, and rodents. But that page I linked above says they came to an agreement and Peta agreed to take down the protest page.

Never been to a PetCo even though there's one in Tampa. Never had the time to stop there. But I'm glad that the one near you is doing so much better Royce and Kris!! That's awesome that they are trying to do a better job!!
And I love the fact that PetCo is no longer selling large birds. How true that most new bird owners have no idea what they are getting into when they buy a parrot or cockatoo! (Good link fuman_chica!! )

Now that its mentioned, I didn't see any large birds there. It could also be from numerous letters written to the execs of petco, one of which was a thread on here a while back. But who knows, maybe others will follow suit to keep their stores clean and pet friendly.
