Hey everyone,

Starting a pennywort carpet in my betta tank. I know its gonna be a lot of pruning and maintenance but I havenā€™t found anyone else online doing this really and wanted to experiment.

Any tips for how to get maximum bushiness? I started out just cutting small bits off the branches below the bud, and planting close to each other. Iā€™m not sure if theyā€™ll root, i probably should have floated them first. Anyways it doesnā€™t look like much now but I think it will be great once the leaves orient themselves to the light.

I have a slow growing carpet of Hydrocotyle Vulgaris in my 60F tank, its more of a true carpeting plant in the sense that it sends out runners and leaves on a single stalk get spaced out along the ground.

I'm not sure how Penny Wort will spread, if the stem will stay under the substrate or if it will keep trying to grow out of the substrate but with a bit of work I can see it working.

I dont plan on it ā€œspreadingā€ in the sense of the stem growing under the substrate and putting leaves out through it. Im just hoping as i continue to trim, that it will get bushier and cover more space

Hey everyone,

Itā€™s been about 2 months and the pennywort has been growing very nicely! Still a ways to go before its a true carpet, but happy with the progress! Iā€™m going to do a big trim and replant this week and then post another update in a month or two.

I like what you've done. Here, it has come out of the tanks and made a carpet on top of the tanks.

Looks great! Well done
