I have this idea that I can switch out the carbon on my HOB filter for peat moss.  I have these sheets of filter sponge that I was going to use as a casing for the peat moss and sew it up so it doesn't go anywhere.  I've read that peat moss will help reduce the pH in my water and since my tap is a little on the high side I was hoping I could use this instead of a pH down.  Just wanted to run this by everyone to see if anyone has some input or helpful pointers. Thanks in advance.

it should be able to work, but you also shouldn't have to reduce your ph, fishies will adapt to your conditions, they would rather have it at a stable high ph than one that fluctuates between ideal and too high.

thank you for your input.  I mostly like the fact that I can make my own filter for about a dollar
