Hello, I'm simply looking for the sex of this Pearl Gourami to avoid future conflicts. I am confused of it's gender.

Also, it looks in good heath right? It's acting fine so I'm not worried, just want to know what sex it is.

i think the male has trailing fins also much more colourfull, as yours hasnt and is quite pale i would say its female :good:

Definatly a female, I have one exactly like that but bigger. Males, as Mattlee pointed out, have the top fins much longer than females. :hey:

It is a female Piti, and with respect to the health question, The spread fins and general stance indicates that it is currently in good hands, but there is evidence that the fish was subjected to either overcrowding (maybe a too small grow-out tank - by the breeder) or poor water conditions when it was still small. To substantiate this, look at the curved lateral line and also the bent spine (especially near the tail end - making the tail point downwards)... It is also evident that some fin damage is currently still in progress.

But, As you say... the fish is acting fine and that is what is important..... I'm sure under your care she'll live a long and happy life.
