Hello,

I was doing a tank clean, and to my surprise there are tiny fry in the tank. I captured one of them and placed it in a net. It is a tiny 7mm (1/4 inch) Panda Cory. I've only had fish for 2 months and this fry is my first. Given the size, I was wondering about how many days old it could be?

I've at least another 2 fry in the tank, and have not been able to capture them. They are only 3mm (1/8 inches). I'm not sure if they are also Panda's. They don't have any black markings on them around the eyes. They are long, slim and see-through (clear). I suspect that they could be Celebes Rainbow's. Or are Panda Cory fry without markings on them when they are first hatched?

Tomorrow, I go out and get some suitable fry food. I put in some crushed up catfish pellot and flake food. Not sure if it would eat that, but until tomorrow it is better than nothing.

The Cory's have been regularly eggs on the glass, but the were always clear and I had removed them after a few days. They must have secretly laid viable eggs on some plants. My Cory's seem to lay eggs for no apparent reason. I thought that Cory's spawn only when there has been a change in temperature, or a water change.

I can't take a picture, as I don't have an SLR camera and the fry are too small.

Hi

I do not want to hijack this thread, but you may have just answered a question I was going to ask...I have eggs all over my tank at the moment, and was going to ask if I just left them in the tank would there be a chance they may hatch.....thought my other fish would eat them, but 2 days on there are loads of eggs still....hopefully someone on here will be able to help with your topic...but I think in your topic, my question has been answered....so thanks for that.

Debbie

hi Sparkle
its hard to say how old the fry are but from my experience they seem to grow bigger and faster in a main tank
i left 20-30 bronze cory eggs in a well planted tank with rocks and put a good 150 in a container and they was the same age but the ones in the main tank was allot bigger for some reason even when i put the wriglers into a growing on tank .
maybe it was down to more space or more alge that they fed on i dont know as a guess id say 2-3 weeks old by the size uv put .
its not nessacery that they will spawn just because you do a cool water change if there well fed and there ready to spawn nature will take its course :good:
if theve survived in the tank that long then id say just leave them in there ovuasly theres enuff hideing places for them to hide and there only vunrable at the early stages and theve manadged to survive this long with no help from any one :good:

hi debbie888
if you want loads ov corydoras then we simpaly collect the eggs.
its like anything really its survival of the fitest if left alone and theres is enuff hideing places and enuff food then some will survive its like any fish they lay loads ov eggs even if one survives then thats the next genaration nature always finds away :good:

Hello,

Thanks drewry, I thought maybe a few days old but it must be a bit older. I've set it loose and it joined the adult Panda's. It's extremely cute. I think it's now too big to fit into anybodys mouth. The other two mystery fry are eluding me, can't find them with all the caves put back after the clean.

They are spawning every few days. The tank is huge for them, and I do a 20% water change every 5 days. Nitrate is below 5ppm.

I just hope that any fry don't get sucked up by the gravel vac. I've always checked the contents of the water before throwing out. For some reason the Panda's like the gravel vac. I have to nudge them out of the way at times.

Debbie, I've heaps of hiding spots. I find that my adult fish don't hide very often, so any fry would free reign in the caves.
