Can these 2 species of piranhas co-exist in a large enough tank ? Let’s say a 2500 litre approx 650 gallon +

There is also the possibility of hybridization if you mix the two species in the same aquarium.
Interesting. Because they are so closely related, everything as far as taxonomy goes.

I’m asking because a person on another forum wants to stuff 40 of them in a 550g, with a sump, 20 of each. And I was very hesitant to give him a clear cut answer on that. He’s never had Piranha before and imho is not the best way to start out.

Another person posted : “...i had 2 - terns, 2 piraya, 2caribe, 2 super reds, 2 reds for quite some time... as a mixed pygo tank...
pygo mixed with pygo good -

pygo mixed with anything else - risky..”

After some research, no. Don't out them both in the same tank.

They need some help... that is terrible.
