I got a fish tank, but now i realized that overstocking = tons of water changes

is there any way to get rid of fishes without killing them?
Like petsmart doesn't accept fishes. hmmm...

i tried the rule 1 inch per gallon but my nitrate shows about 40 ppm, which is crazy high from what i know of.
advice please

thanks, Dan

Hi Dan. Give us more information to comment on. What is the capacity and dimensions of your tank? What fish and how many of each do you have? Do you have an API liquid test kit? What are your water stats with respect to ammonia, nitrite and Ph? FYI a NitrAte reading of 40 ppm is not high and is not a problem. High NitrIte is a problem. More info would help us comment.

Lastly, you could advertise your fish locally in the online classifieds or something similar and just give them away. Independent fish stores might be more willing to take them off your hands. Local aquarium clubs might also be able to help.

Try a LFS in a garden center and not the big chains.

Or advertise on gumtree, ebay or classifieds

LFS means local fish store, usually a private non-chain one.....

10ppm of NitrAte is fine. I get 20ppm out of my tap alone, my tanks hang around 40ppm I think... IDK the last time it was tested though.
