Ok, my mate has a new tank... a aqua 380A (which i think is about 35 LITRES?)

her mum wants her to get rid off it (it was an impulse buy on my mates behalf and her mum was not to happy!)

Anyway, she wants to give it to me which i happierly excepted however i think she may have it over-stocked..

This is what she has in the tank (i think anyway.. from what i can remember... )

1 tiny plec (a bristlenose i think she said)
4 neons
2 barbs
4 rummynoses
(i believe she has a female betta aswell but i cant be sure... she explained that it was her NEW addition to the tank but i havent seen it yet... from what ive heard her explain on the phone, it sounds like a betta)

is this tank overstocked? she has no live plants, just plastic ones and rocks etc. I know her stats are fine and all fish seem healthy when i last saw them.

what can i do with this tank when i get it? should i take some of the fish back to the shop or will there be fine? help!!

Sounds OK to me except the bristlenose. A little overstocked but the others should be OK if you keep up with weekly water changes, and if you have a good filter. The barbs, depending on what kind you have, may pick on your tetras too much, though, so they might have to go, too. The bristlenose will get too big and be cramped, plus plecs produce a lot of waste. If you really really want a plec, you could take something else out and add a pitbull plec. That is the only one I know of that I would recommend for that small of a tank.

What kind of barbs? If they are tiger barbs, I would definately rehome them... or really whatever kind of barbs they are, I would rehome them because 2 is not a good group and there's no room for a group of barbs anyway. I would keep the neons and rummynoses and maybe the bristlenose. And then I would rehome the rest. Personally, I've never had a betta that liked be kept in a community; all mine have been very aggressive and wanted a tank for themselves.

Good luck on your decision.

Well, from what I understand, if they are cherry barbs they do OK in pairs, and they are one of the smaller barbs. I agree that any other barb that I can think of at the moment will probably be a problem.
