A bit of an odd request, but I figured if anyone knew it would be here. I had a small 5 gallon indoor tank, which held a handful of Malaysian fairy shrimp, Malaysian trumpet snails, and a few Ramshorn snails - as well as some marismo moss and some moneywort planted in the substrate. I'd say it was successful, the tank lasted for well over a month before I started to notice mosquito eggs floating in the water. I live in Florida so I wasn't too shocked to discover this, I did my best to remove the eggs but unfortunately it seems a few hatched. At first they were hard to distinguish from my shrimp, but I quickly had an outbreak on my hands and the mosquitos began feasting on my shrimp. I was forced to abandon the project as a whole, neutralizing the water with chemicals and disposing of practically everything as my shrimp and snails had all died. As far as I know, I did everything right, but I did learn that moneywort can attract mosquitos should it be dying, which apparently a stem I had received was.
I've done a great deal more research after this massacre, and would like to try again. I'm treating this tank practically as if it is outdoors, as per my location mosquitos are far too common in the spring and summer months. If you have any suggestions for building a tank that is anti-mosquito, it would be much appreciated.
