i was at a chinese restaurant today and they had a massive silver aro. he must have been at least 1.5' ... but im underestimating so i dont go to far, i can safely say it could have been 2'. well a friend of mine works in a lfs and he set up a 125 display tank with tetras and corys and stuff, judging by the looks of it, the aro tank was the same size. you know how the monster tank size guide here says to make the tank width to be 1.5 x that of the length of the fish, ya this fish had to make itself into a 'U' pretty much to make a turn, granted it did this seemingly effortlessly as it glided back and forth but i still think this is too small. am i right? that beast should be in a much bigger tank shouldnt it? oh, and the aro actually looked fairly healthy considering, minus the nips in its tail every few inches.

like you said, it is after all a restaurant thus its priority would not be on the fish nor its conditions. the small width may eventually result in gill curl, something you'd find in arowanas kept in too small a tank.

i assume you're saying 125g (125L is disappointingly small), and yes it will not house an arowana for life.

I think its been said before that 300g is a min for a silver and thats only because there extremely flexible. CFC's silver has pushed past 40" i believe.

where was this restaurant ?

im in the states, bit far from Oxford in case you were wanting to go by there  and yes, i feel the same way, i want to walk in there and by like 'you guys need to take better care of your fish! sell them to me if you cant and i will talk to my friends and find a good home for them'. they also have a solitary cichlid in what appears to be a 15 gallon behind the front counter, its by itself and has no real decorations so the other day it was huddling behind the filter intake for protection. i asked about it and they didnt even know what kind it was, not even that it was a cichlid. all i was told was that it was very mean because all the other fish they put in there with it... it killed. big surprise. oh and speaking of huddling behind stuff in the back, in the aro tank there were little goldfish (feeders im sure) over in a bottom corner. goldfish - are - not - good - feeders --- period (exclamation point)

so im thinking about talking to some of my friends that are in the hobby and see if i cant locate someone who would want to buy an aro. im sure the restaurant ppl would give it to me for a fair price since they dont even know how to care for it much less what its worth. it deserves a good home. and wow! +40", CFC must be proud.

what do yall think about my trying to see if i can find someone that would want to buy him?

i doubt they will let the aro go
they believe it brings good luck to the restaurant/owner

I think CFC would be the first to say that 300gall is no where near enough for a Silver Arowana. If you see his silver using every inch of his 900gall you willl know why. Also CFC's Arow is about 30" last time i spoke to him.
