 I was looking at my betta earlier and noticed a small hole, about the size of a bit of rice, in his fin, it was all red and red around it. Will he be ok and do i need to do anything to help him + what may of caused this? (no tankmates, only buddy is a cory)

What are your stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
Bacterial finrot, you will need a bacterial med.
Is there any red streaking.

ammonia- 0.10
Nitrate- 250 - Yea i know its high, happened after a ammonia spike
Nitrite- 0
ph -6.8-7.0
Yes there is red streaking near the hole and i noticed his fins are tattyer than usual

Good god never even seen a nitrate reading that high and immediate water change.
Dosnt sound good then if you have red streaks though they can be caused to poor water quality and also they can mean septicemia.
Anti internal bacteria med by interpet, and some pimafix.
Increase aeration, good luck.

250 i think. my test kit goes from white, 0 to dark pink 250, mines at mid-pink. Are those meds available in the uk?
EDIT:+ my lfs did a test yesterday, same colour they said, its not that bad at the level it was at but will be bad if left for a few days and any new fish would die quick.
EDIT2: Are there any other symptoms of finrot?

About to set up a hospital tank, adding 1tsp salt per gallon, that good?

Yes that fine, good luck.
As long as only the betta in there.

Just a quick question, how long will he have to be in with salt?

Till he's better, good luck.
