I was looking at my tank with all the plants, etc... and realized that it has just a tiny bit of Algae, even with my Pleco scouring the tank....

Well, it's a 55G my Pleco is a common and right now is only about 1 1/2 to 2" long.

So, I'm thinking I need some more algae eaters, but can't decide what to get.... :/

the pleco is going to get huge, so when it does you wouldnt need any other fish. amano shrimp are good plant groomers, but im not sure if they would get eaten. i heard that bristle nose cats are great algae eaters. otos are good too. but if your going to keep the pleco i wouldnt get any fish. you could probably get some otos to help clean.

Actually, from what I have read, the bigger they get, the less they clean. :(

Which is why I figured I would add two of something that will always clean. ;)

Smaller Plecos or Ottos, unless someone has other recommendations.

I will have to check into the shrimp.

Is it the 55G at the top of your sig?

I would move the 4 peppered cory to the other 55 once it has finished cycling.

then get like 5 otos for the older 55..

Ben

Otos and corrys are both tame and will get along with each other.

If I were you I'd get a shoal of ottocinclus to keep your tank clean. They stay small so they will always be able to get around corners like plant leavs ect.

Okay, how are Ottos going to do with a planted tank?

how do you mean? they like a planted tank, cos they like to graze on the leaves, but they wont eat the actual leaves, if that's what you were asking. :)

That is. :) I want some loaches also, but I'm really worried about them digging up the plants. :/

maybe you could wait till the plants are better rooted and then get some (smallish) loches? I changed my substrate today and one of the plants i took out had roots in excess of 2' long after only being there 6 months, i doubt any fish could have dug that up

I vote you go with a squadron of otos. Peaceful, small, and always looking for algae to scrape.

Alright, I will pick up a crew of ottos here soon. Need to in order to hopefully keep the glass clean. :/
