Otos are new for me.

When I added the 4, they spent the first 24 hours on the cuke strips, poor things were STARVING!

Haven't had any zuke or cuke in the tank for 48 hours.  Put some in this morning and the otos pass by it. To me, this says they are doing well, not starving.  Agree?

I know they take time to find stuff -- and I DO put it in the same place each time.  It's been in there about 6 hours already.

I should have 5 otos in the tank, most I ever see is 4.  There are plenty of places for them to hide.

And I have rocks in glass trying to grow some algae for them.  But now I see them not devouring the cuke, I feel calmer about getting that going.  I have 6 rocks, so I will be able to swap them out regularly, once they get started.

stress at the beginning with get to them, you'll just have to wait and hope they'll go for it.
a trick to get algae faster is to get a clear container, put a rock in it with water and throw some fish food (pellets w.e) and in a week you should get some .. just hope your guys last.

they need very mature tanks with already algae established so that the time they are use to man made they aren't starving.

Did not know re the food, will add that to my container.

This evening one oto is on the cuke strip - on the back of it, the skin ha haaa.  I really do not think they are starving at this point, I think they are finding plenty in the tank itself.

Fingers crossed!

I've noticed that my Otos only approach cuke if it's been in the tank for a day getting all wet and mooshy.

Even though my tank has plenty of algae my Oto's love their zucchini.
They do prefer it when it's starting to go softer, mine are all over it when I put it in with the babies forming an orderly queue for their turn
You could microwave it for a few seconds before putting it in, make sure it's cooled down though

my ottos eat regular weggie rounds.. made by Omega..

I never scrape the back glass pane so mine always have a supply of algae there to graze on and they do that a lot. I put 4 algae wafers in after lights out for them and the corys and the pleco.
