i agree. you better stick with smaller cichlids for a 25 gallon tank. you could get an oscar for that tank but, you'll need to change the water every other day and then the oscar will outgrow the tank in about a month. so i wouldnt even bother.

What happened to my post? i made one after fish503 but it has vanished :(

  :( aaaaaahhhhhhhh noooooooooo i just went out and baught a 175 litre 46 gal tank its huge shurely i would be able to put a pair in that? 4 foot tank for crying out loud i know they get big but 55 gall how do i find one of those i got the biggest tank they had... breaths :-(

No sorry mate but a 46 gallon just isnt big enough for Oscars, one will need a minimum of a 55g and if you want more than one you will need 40 gallons of water per fish minimum. Most shops can get you a larger tank if you want one but expect to pay 2 to 3 hundred quid for set ups without a stand.

Well I suppose us small tankers will have to try some Malawis - How many would I be able to put into my (former, it broke) 120l tank.

I still want an oscar tho

angels perhaps and some sharks im not shure what i can put in this tank its pretty big id feel like i was waisting it if i put guppys and neons in it... i always thaught angels where verry difficult to keep tho will look around

edit : sorry to hear about your tank. the main reason im kicking myself is that for an extra 10 quid i could have had the extra 10 gallons if i had of known i might have stepped up the money.

When you say sharks i hope you mean red tails or rainbows, any of the others get too big for a 46g,a pair of angels would be OK though.

ut oh i got a shark yesterday and... it was not a red tailed and im pretty shure not a rainbow not like a lemon shark or anything big like that but umm well it had a fancy latin name i cant remeber now what it was.i will have a look next weekend to see what it said.
edit: i mgith have to get a bigger tank later on if it does get too big. then i could get those oscars tho im not shure where i would put the tank.. i think ive got room for a 7 foot tank but thats about it.. might have to make it myself (imagin a worried looking smiley here). :alien:

I'm considering siamese fighters for my 120l tank. Talk about how a kid feels at xmas. I cannot decide - maybe when I win the lotto I can by myself the mother of all aquariums - something like that at the V&A waterfront in Cape Town  In my dreams!

fish gambler you where talking about making your own aquarium in one of the other threads it might be a good idea i have toyed with the idea myself on occations. and one thaught has crossed my mind on allmost every occation thats that the tank need not be all glass. thus one pain of glass and lots of say plastic might be cheeper i was going to make a sort of heated pond with a pain of glass in it if you will. meh just a thaught but if you did you could have ten of those oscars in there.

Well perspex crossed my mind but it scratches quite easily etc so I'm doing the glass tank. This time tho I'll buy reinforced glass. I'm going to try the 120l one before I do anything bigger. If I have to bust a 6 foot pane glass then I'll s*g*r myself!

Maybe I should just dig a hole in the ground.

Tis dark outside, the sunday movie is about to start, tomorrows monday (sigh) therefore I shall stop for now.

Good Nite and may ur fish stay belly down. ;)

Jamnog, Ya i would do 55 gal for one oscar! We have two of them at our zoo that are 15 inches long! so 2 fish 15 inches !! I would not put one of them in less then a 55 gal! ;)
