can someone help me i think this may be getting out of hand and i need to know if i can get a pleco in my tank.
I had a 60 litre tank and have just upgraded to a 280 litre tank to accomadate my new fish but a bigger tank means i can get more fish? ...... or maybe not.
i curently have 1 x discus, 1 x bala shark, 1 x angel, 1 ghost knife, 3 tetra neons, 2 x tiny catfish (max. lenght 8cm) and i really hope to get a pleco.
Can someone please advise me if this will be a great idea or a disaster.

What species are the tiny catfish?

The bala sharks are best kept in groups of 3 or more, so it might be worth investing in some more.

I look forward to some photos, some of those fish have great character!

Ok, i'm from the US, and tend to work better in gallons, so i'll tell you that your tank is 75 US gallons. Looking at the fish you currently have, you have one bala shark. These are social fish, so ideally you should get atleast two more. These fish can get up to 16 inches each. You also have a ghost knife that will get up to 20 inches long. Besides those fish, you've also ot the discus, angel, tetras and cats.

Assuming you get the other two bala sharks, i would say no. Plecos can grow over 12 inches and are considered heavy waste producers. I don't think you will have room for that.

i will surely be posting a few pictures once i have the tank complete.
As for gallons i am from australia and have no idea how to convert gallons to litres but atleast you have it all worked out.
I think it was yourself that made me go from a 60 litre tank to a 280 litre as you told me i overstocked my small tank and they were all gonna die.

As for the bala sharks will they be okay if i didnt invest in a few more of them???

They should be fine, just watch out for agression. Are you enjoying the larger tank? I love the look of ghost knives, but just don't have room for them in my tank.

Roughly 1 gallon is 4 ltrs, or the easy way, use a web site that does the calculations for you. Here is my favorite one. http://www.petfish.net/calculators/calculate.php It does quite a bit of stuff, including volume conversions, temperature, lenght, calculates volume, all sorts of useful stuff.

I love ghost knife fish too, I think they are so beautiful. If only I had a bigger tank...
You might want to try for a smaller breed of pleco. I have one that only grows up to only 5 inches, and I've seen even smaller schooling ones. I don't remember the names of the breeds, but talk to a sales assistant at your preferance pet store.
Because these guys are so small they may have a hard time of cleaning your whole tank. If you are looking for a solution to algae, I suggest an aquarium magnet.
Good luck!

Congrats on the big tank!

I would first look at the current inhabitants, like ttnjfttt suggested, and see about upping their numbers. Bala sharks are schooling, so are neons (groups of 6+ best)- and what catfish are those you've got? If they're cories, they also prefer bigger groups.

With the neons, there is the slight complication that the ghost knife may eat them as he grows bigger; I believe they are nocturnal predators.
