Only in America is one complete isle in the grocery store dedicated to grits, and another complete isle dedicated to country gravy

I'm not a native floridian!!! :p born and raised in So Cal baby!!!! man I miss home. I've been here 10 years and yeah, between the massive elderly populations (who can't drive) and the latins trying to change the primary language down here, things are pretty screwy, but at least our Electric company isn't bankrupt :p

the above comment was not meant to pick on the elderly as I assist a 101 year old woman in my spare time, I have been in 15 car accidents in 10 years here and evry time except one I was rear ended by an eldrly person. the other time I was rear ended by a drunk teenager (don't even get me started on that one as I spent a month in the hospital and have not been right since) wow I can really babble when I'm tired, sorry all :(

Hey Tanked,

I know exactly what you are talking about. I even got in an accident in Florida, and I'm only down there once a year. We got ran off the road in Ocala by a drunk driver at 5 in the morn, and I spent the rest of my vacation in the hospital down there! I came home as white as the day that I left

i actually like the mix of cultures in the USA and since we have no official language here the increasing influence of Latin culture is not a bad thing to me. i value and appreciate that much of the USA culture.

I meant literally trying to change the languange down here. it was proposed ay a miami school teacher that english be replaced with spansih as the required language of study for 12 years worth of school and that english could be taken as an elective like french and german.

I too really appreciate the multitude of culture that the US has to offer. I can go see a movie at an upscale theater on the beach and within 20 minutes can be enjoying black beans, rice and plaintains in little havana, then head over to little haiti for coconut covered bananas for dessert. but this country was founded by the British (not discovered, founded, I am well versed in world history) and the land stolen from it's native inhabitants. now seeing that the brits FOUNDED this place I'd say the primary language is english. and has been that way since b4 the 1st thanksgiving (native americans excluded, and I'm sorry my ancestors stole all you land :-( )

nah, i wasn't suggesting that you weren't versed on world/USA history. i just didn't fully understand your train of though until the second go-around. thanks...

okay, anyway back to the point of this thread. that particular quote makes me laugh. there's a very funny scene in Bowling for Columbine that illustrates US citizens' obsession with door-locking. Moore goes up to several people's houses in Canada and just...walks in, as their doors are unlocked!
