Bad day today - Went to lfs ask them what tank mates they recommend for 2 kribs and they said an Angel so I asked him about them as I don't know much about them, he said there semi - aggressive and can hold their ground, So he sold me 2 and also said he was having a deal on 4 juvy mixed malawis and said they would be fine in their as well, me not paying much attention I bought them from him.
Big mistake!
Got home then pop them in, Went out, came back now and See one of the angels is lying of the ground with both its eyes picked out :(
Im not sure if it died in the tank and then got ate or they got picked out alive.
Who do you think is the culprit? And Why?

I can't say I'm an expert what so ever on any of these types of fish, but aren't they all pretty aggressive? Especially Malawis? I've always steered away from them as I've always been told they are super aggressive.
And from what trouble my friend had with her Kribs (they were a breeding pair) they can be pretty nippy aswell!
Poor Angel =[

Oh dear...

I'm sorry for your loss; it'll almost certainly be the Malawis. Although they're not usually very aggressive as youngsters, they're still way more aggressive than most fish and cannot be kept in any kind of community tank; they need a specialist set up just for them, with lots of rockwork, hard alkaline water (the exact opposite of what the angels require) and they need to be crowded to reduce bullying issues.

They're going to have to go back, unless you want to set up another tank for them. I personally would have a right go at the chap who sold them to you, knowing they were going to a community tank; that's very, very irresponsible.

P.S. And please, please, please don't buy fish without researching them yourself first in future...

Thanks guys and Yeah I know I normally do the research but as I was already at the shop as wasnt go back in a while i though Maybe i should cut my lfs some slack and trust him.
NEVER AGAIN.
Malawis is going in a species tank and ive got one angel left so hopefully it wasnt the kribs and it would be fine!

more to the point have you not learned by now to to ask here before buying fish you are unsure of and never to listen to a LFS? :)

Terrible shame...but, I'm sorry to say, I have to admit I'm surprised you bought them, even if you weren't 'paying attention'. You are pretty active on these boards and malawis never pop up as community fish, so surely some alarm bells would've rang? You seem pretty thorough in terms of reasearch normally.

Pity about the angel though.

Thanks and yeah I know but I fell into the 'LFS' trap where he made me think he knows what hes talking about, he managed to convict me that they'll go with kribs and angels :/ .
Ive learnt my lesson now.

sad thing to happen, add the lfs to one not to trust, if it was me id be having a word with the boss aswell. As already said malawi's require a diff water chemistry to angels so the lfs was totally of on there suggestion and just going for sales. kribs are questionable, some seem to get along fine in a community out right, some get overly aggressive when they start breeding and some are just plain nasty and wont get along with anything, keep an eye on them and be prepared to move them. Angels well they seem to be kept a lot in a community environment and i dare say they might be ok until they start to breed, then theres a chance you will find everyone pinned to one side of the tank, could be wrong here but iv known angels to spawn every 2 wks.

So of the seemingly 10 million threads you have started over the last month or two you still go and buy completely uncompatable fish?

Well surprisingly these 2 types of fish I dont know much about and Ive heard of angels being aggressive and my lfs made me believe they were, The malawis are now gone into a big species tank of a friends and Im keeping an eye on the angel for now.

I think we have all done this once. I bought my Jewel cause she was pretty and the LFS said she would be compatible with my severums. Yeah...not so much....she tried to eat them..

But me and my Jewel and gotten an understanding now, and she doesn't eat my fish anymore lol

I think the least the LFS should do is refund the cost of the fish and allow you to return any that are not compatible with your original tank inhabitants. The lack of integrity and knowledge they showed in the "advice" (sic) they gave you is appalling. They are supposed to be experts (but we all know thats far from the truth often enough). I asked one staff member at a local LFS what I could use to get RO water to 6.5pH and he suggested rift lake buffer !!! Sorry for your loss, lesson learned, sadly at a cost of a fish life. But really, don't let the LFS get away with it. The more people complain where poor advice was the reason for a loss, they may start to think about what they spout. Thanks for listening, rant over , lol. Hope you have a better week...

snake, how about next time you check with the forum BEFORE you buy a fish. You always get plenty of answers to your questions. I'm sure you would get a quick answer, and it would only delay your purchase by an hour or so. It seems your fish acquisitions can be a bit impulsive.
