Also added other bettas who need homes!

Was looking through bettas sold online and came across this one odd looking betta someone is selling for $5 named Phillip, saying he's the most drab looking brown betta they had ever seen. It was posted a month ago but the betta is still listed for adoption. Mabye someone kind here would like this fellow, I feel bad knowing how someone not knowing anything about bettas may buy this guy and not care for him. Looks like he needs a good home. He's not mine, but I feel bad for him so i'm letting you guys knows about him! :)
(must live by Brainerd, MN so you can bring in a water sample in to the adoption place)

What a sad tale  . Oh dear someone didn't like the colour. Did he not match the curtains or something? :grr:

I wish I was in the US, I seriously do. I'd have the poor little thing immediately and then send back pictures of a proper tank with that fish looking vastly improved in it.

Because if this is anything to go by
His new home will need to provide him with a nice tank, preferably at least one gallon
then frankly I'm not surprised he has dull colouring and looks miserable if that's what he's been kept in. :grr:

As fr the free one
I have him in a 2 gallon bowl and am doing near daily 20-30% water changes, but am still having problems with ammonia

gosh I wonder why....

I tried contacting the seller, I live in RI, USA....unfortunately (not that I can blame them in this season) they are unwilling to post the fish to me  poor little guy....I had already decided to divide my ten gallon into two compartments for him and my current betta

Is there any way you can keep half the tank free for the warmer weather so you can adopt him than?

I am happy though someone wants to adopt him, he looks so sad right now and needs better care. :(

I had no plans of getting another so the other half can certainly be his if he is still available in a few months....I just hope the poor thing can survive in those conditions until then!

I sent them another email asking that they keep me in consideration should no one else show interest in the little guy - I have repeatedly stressed that I would pay for shipping! Fingers crossed they realize I could give him a good home!

Fingers crossed too you can get him! :)

Aww, I would be tempted if I lived in the US!

Hope he finds a good home.

Are you referring to the first one or the second one? Because I think the first one is being kept in pretty good conditions, he's in a 29 gallon tank.

I had originally misread the posting, thinking he was kept in the one gallon....they emailed me back and said "We would never consider shipping an animal to a home that we have not been able to visit, (or in this case, have an appropriate water test done). The stress of shipping kills many fish, and we will not risk Phillip's life. He is well cared for here, and will stay here until an appropriate local home is found, or until he passes away of natural causes. We are no-kill, so he will not run out of time. He is more than welcome to stay in his foster home for the rest of his life if no valid adopters come for him. Again, he has plenty of space, he's well cared for, and he even has other fish (live-bearers) to keep him company while he stays with us.

I do hope that you are able to find a fish in your area to adopt. You sound very compassionate and capable of proper husbandry for any fish you take in.

so at least he is one of the lucky ones, in a foster home that actually is properly caring for him

I never saw the part about the 29 gallon until today, and when they say he is in a tank with livebearers, on the site it says he eats some of them... plus they did say he was drab in the ad, it seemed like they didn't care much like his color was a bad thing, and especially when they say to have him in at least 1 gallon to the adopter, 1 gallon is not good at all you know, not good advice really, but anyway, IMO his fins look a bit damaged so not sure if they are fully telling the truth, but what can you do right? They should have specified before that no adoptions unless they can visit to avoid confusion.

Anyone live in the same area as the foster home by any chance? Looks like it's in Brainerd, MN.

Jenste if you want you could check out if this person would be willing to ship in the nicer weather, they are offering the betta for free. http://forum.brooklynaquariumsociety.org/showthread.php?t=683
(looks like you already looked, mabye they'll post back soon)

At this rate if I can find any more bettas that need homes urgently, i'll post it here, seems like this was a good idea! :)

definitely - I wouldn't mind helping out a little guy in need of a home
