I found my lotus this morning floating on the surface. It has been fantastically healthy in my tank and i've thoroughly enjoyed it. However, the whole plant with all it's stems was floating, minus the bulb.

This surely suggests the bulb has died? I've read in PFK that they need a 'rest' every 6 months but never did. I've probably had it longer than 6 months now.

Being a bulb plant i'm assuming i can't replant it. Has it had it?

hey Felix...sometimes they do loose their bulbs. I have had this happen in the past. It will grow another over time. :good:

Hey Ian! so what should i do, try and put the stem back in the substrate?

yes, bury it and it will re root. The bulb will grow slowly.

Done, had to take some of the larger leaves off to stop it floating off again.

Found the bulb, it doesn't look all bad to be honest, but no roots coming out. I've left it in the substrate. Might it grow new shoots or should i dispose of it?

it may re grow, just keep an eye on it though, they can rot, and they stick to high heaven!

Thanks for your help Ian. The bulb is near the front so i can watch it closely! Yeah I've heard they get a bit pongy!

All the best.

and you!

remember to get some new pics of that tank up at some point. :good:

Ah yes! I submitted some to the december TOTM comp (only 2 votes :( haha) but never actually put them in the journal. will do so now!
