my 55 gallon has been running for about 20 days and my amonia is just at .25 do i need more fish i have about 10 inches now

If you're doing a fish in cycle then you don't want your ammonia to ever read above 0.25ppm, same goes for nitrites.

But if you did want to speed the cycle up then you'll want to get hold of some mature media or filter mulm. Where abouts do you live?
