hi guys... just interest a friend is giving me a 2ft tank but i dont have money atm for a heater ... is there any nice coloured fish you could have in there and breed? i dont mind if they are commonish... something a little different but not hard to get would be cool also....

any suggestions? can this be done simply seting up a tank with no heater and just go? or i heard something about a chiller?

i'm not sure

thanx guys
kel :)

a few small goldfish will be fine but as stated in other posts they will soon outgrow a 2ft tank ,no need for a chiller, set up the tank as for tropical but with no heater
ryan will be the best person to post on suitable fish for a small tank :hey:

most danios are classed as sub-tropical
so they can tollerate lower water temps
as are WCMM's. Hillstream loaches like
cooler temps, although they prefer fast flowing currents.
You can have sunfish, but if your in the uk
you may need a license to keep them.

ohh guess i should have mentioned i am in australia ;)

and what are: WCMM's ???

thanx guys

White cloud mountain minnows. They are wonderful and I have two types in my tank. They are a small fish but do school some and add lots of life to the tank. Displayes between males are fun to watch too.

I got a 50w heater for $10 CAD. It's a complete POS, but hey, it works. I'd reccomend some sort of Killiefish for occupants, make sure you research the species first, though.

wcmm's , zebra danio's , leapord danios, glowlight danios etc..
hillstreem loach or stone sucker (same thing)
pepered corries will be ok in an unheated tank
