ive just tested my water on the 12th day of my fishless cycle and aside from still not having any traces of nitrite and amonia of 5ppm my ph is now 8, and when i started the cycle 12 days ago my ph was 7.2ppm. i have nothing in my tank except for silica sand which i bought from petsmart, its tahitian moon-made for aquariums. i use aquarium pharmaceuticals test kit

i plan to have cardinals, danios, corys, dwarf gouramis, will this high ph be a problem? local fish are from a ph of 7.2

if so what are my options?

i will be adding java fern, java moss, shale and pvc tubs covered in the sand i have.

thanks

Make sure you are using ammonia that has no impurities. If it has phosphates or perfumes that could account for it. Higher PH = more basic the water. Soap is very basic.
