Congratulations, really six days is not abnormally long. I think mine took 5. Anyway, settle in for the longer wait, as it usually takes twice as long for your nitrites to peak and cycle as it does the ammonia. It is worth it though to start off with happy stressless fish.

Only took 2 days for my 10 gal UK tank to cycle the ammonia, unfortunately as mentioned above it took almost another 2 weeks before the nitrite went. Literally stuck at 2ppm every single test for ages then suddenly went in 12hours. Very frustrating time but don't give up. If it's any consolation I set out to buy my first fish today, sat for 4 hours in a traffic jam for a journey that was only supposed to take 30 minutes. Then found that the fish i'd wanted, which they'd had about 25 of last weekend, had sold out! BUMMER
