Hi I have a problem with my nitrate.

I try to do water changes every week at about 20%, my fish eat all the food I put in the tack with in three minutes and the water I put in has no nitrate. Yet the nitrate levels are still high. I have some fish that are vigorous plant eaters and if I put plats in there they don’t last three day without starting to rot.

Has any one got any ideas how I can get the nitrate down?

Any help appreciated.

Michael :-D

What do you define as high?

If you can also let us know your figures for Ammonia and NitrIte also.

It’s still 100mg/l or very red. I have not used any Nitrasafe dose that work? Or I was thinking for getting a breding net and putting some plants in that so the fish cant eat them do you think this will work?

A couple of products that I have used are ok.

NitraZorb is one that is easily available in this country.

Allgone is available from the states or online at www.allgone.com

I have found both to be useful.

Regarding the plant idea maybe Rose the resident plant expert can advise you there.

Nitrazorb works well for also and is rechargable.

My levels were allways into the 100's - out the tap at 60ish but Nitrazorb now keeps the levels arround the 20-30 mark
