Nitrate-Removal sponges

Examin the sponge. If I am correct there is a little slice in the side which contains a little chemical "pill" which in fact is the nitrateremover/converter.

When I had my Juwel filter (I replaced the filter eventually so 10 or so years ago) the info said it contained bacteria to remove nitrate. Most other nitrate removal products are chemical, though there are some media which say they grow anaerobic bacteria down inside.

On the box, it says to change every six weeks.
