I have 3 male guppies, 3 female platies, 2 male platies and 4 male tetras in 130 litre tank

2 of my guppies keep nipping at the high fin of my male platies and sometimes each other. They dont do it all the time and they only appear to attack the 2 males.

Does anyone know why they may be doing this and how it can be avoided. Could it possibly be because they want a female. I hope not because I dont really want a tank full of guppy babies 2 of my platies are possibly pregnant as it is.

Your help is appreciated. Thanks

Well, for one thing, guppies nip and pick at everything, all day long, regardless of whether its animate or inanimate...

I was also about to say the same thing  They are no longer the placid fish they used to be a couple of decades ago and they can harass a fish to committing suicide and they will try to mate with anything and everything... on a couple of ocassions even the net that was holding them

Nim,

I was just reading this thread and saw your sig, and I got to say, you got some really neat looking tanks! I love the natural look!

Nice job!

Oh dear, guess I should just keep on eye on them then... Do you think adding females will help
