I have a question for anyone who knows African chiclids. A little over a year ago, I bought my son his first fish tank. We looked at fish and he really wanted african chiclids. I didnt really want to get them for him, because I really didnt know much about them. I'm a saltwater guy personally. But eventually I agreed (its hard to argue with a 7 yr.old). I settled on two fish. the first one was purchased out of a tank containing assorted chiclids. it was 1.5" long blue with black verticle stripes. The second was purchased a a different store They told me it was a peacock, it was 2" long and now is very bright blue. eventually my son lost intrest and it was up to me to take care of the fish.I really just feed them in the morning and do my water changes. Both fish are in a 20 high.
now the peacock is about 5" long and the other one is only 2", but really holds his own with the big one.
2 days ago was my sons 9th. b-day. and he went into his room to show some of his friends the fish. I was very shocked when he came out and asked me if I bought another fish. sure enough when I went into investigate, there was A tiny fish hiding in some of the rocks. it is about 1/2" long and defenately a chiclid. My question is is it possible for two different chiclids to breed? or could the one fish have carried fertilized eggs for over a year? If anyone can help me out I would really like to know...I can E-mail pics if anyone wants to see them. I dont even know what kind of fish the one really is..... thanks.........
