Good morning. Woke with a start this morning when my daughter and I couldn't find our Molly fish.
We are novice to the fish world...very. These are our first fishes and it all started when we met a homeless family that was looking for a home for 5 very small goldfish living in very little water...no toys...plants...so we adopted them reluctantly.
Well we fell in love! Our 5 goldfish are in a 10 gallon tank now and all are 2 to 3 inches long...we think we need to move them to a 15 gallon tank soon...they endless hours of entertainment...and show love and appreciation every time we walk by the tank or sit in the chair to watch them. I refuse to believe they are only happy because they think I'm going to feed them.
For my daughters 20th birthday we added a new 2.5 tank with a blue Beta. I wanted to adopt all the Beta fish...just don't believe it's human to have them in such tiny quarters and all alone even if they are used to it. Blu will inherit the 10 gallon tank. I suspect he will think he's finally made it to the ocean. We are considering trying to house other fish with him but we are reluctant until we have time to really watch for signs of trouble.
My daughter surprised me two weeks ago with a Molly Balloon fish. We had seen them in the store and just fell in love. This little black fish seems to fit in well with the gold fish, swimming back and forth with her little lips pursed. I'm sure she'd have a husky voice and say "kiss me baby" if she could. Molly gave us a scare this morning because we couldn't find her...now we think maybe she's a he and that she/he is looking for love...?
I'm so relieved to find this site...I will spend today learning more about Mollys...and after reading some of the posts realize we need to find out about temperatures, fish schools/cultures, foods, breeding...so much to learn!
I think it's so cool that some of you post pictures of your fishies. I believe we have "swum" into a wonderful new world.
