Hello Tropical Fish Forum, my name is Bel and I'm new to the forum. I have had a tropical fish tank for about a year now and have really been enjoying the experience. I started off with a pair of angelfish in a 10 gallon planted tank a year ago and upgraded to a 30gallon about 3 months ago. Since the upgrade, my plants and fish have been doing extremely well. Unfortunately one of my angelfish got what I believe to be a swim bladder infection and perished. Otherwise things have been good.

Currently I have 1 angelfish and 7 cory's and I am looking to add some additional fish. I want to get a mid sized fish, something in between the angel and the cory's that is active. As of right now, the cory's chill on the bottom or in the back while the angel cruises the mid-upper levels. Any suggestions for a compatible addition would be much appreciated.

Ty in advance for any advice.

p.s. I do frequent water changes and have adequate filtration so I am not too worried about exceeding capacity with another fish or two.

welcome belgeron! i too i have a 30 gallon, with angels but it is a tall tank. do you keep yours in a tank over 18"? some livebearers may be cool, if your okay with the possibility of babies!

Mine is a 30 tall as well. I have it planted with vallisneria all across the back of the tank and a few other sorted plants. Is it possible to put a photo up on here? I am comfortable with getting livebearers and still have my 10gal if I wanted to transfer them after breeding.

I would add some shoaling fish for some more colour and movement.
In a 30G i would go for something like
1 Angelfish
8 Corys
8 Marble hatchets or 4 Golden panchax (1 3f)
8 Harlequin rasbora or Cardinal tetra or Glowlight tetra so on.

And depending on filtration maybe a Bristlenose plec or similar sized plec or a Banjo catfish.
