Hi guys...

I'm new to this... learning way to much all at once!! So I will start like this...

Have a 29 gallon tank... set up about December 12th-13th!! Gravel and 4 plants in the back (fake) Temp sitting at 78 degrees...

Bought:

2 Pink Kissers
2 Dwarf Emerald Gourami
1 ID Shark
1 Channel Cat

Things seems to be going great... then the tank got cloudy once I added the fish!! Did the research, said it was normal. Cleared up then went cloudy again... with air bubbles. Cleared again...

Bought:

1 Pink Kisser (to replace the one that died)
2 Dalmation Molly
6 Neon Tetra
1 Electric Blue Crayfish
1 Pleco

W/ Air Pump, Bridge and Coconut Cave

Now the tank is cloudy again... and a little green as well with the air bubbles present in the tank and at the top of the water (making it look soapy) The other morning I noticed that my one Molly was in a hole at the top of the Coconut Cave, eaten by the Crayfish!! And now my Pleco is also dying... fins bitten!!

Please help me... I need to know what I can change?? Do I need to move my Crayfish to a different tank?? Can I add different fish to my community tank??

I would get rid of the crayfish as fast as yoiu can. If it is eating fish, it will only eat more!!!

Too many fish too quickly probably too.
in a 29g tank which is under 6 months old I wouldnt add more than 4 fish at a time, and watch your ammonia levels after adding them.

crayfish are not hunters but oportunist and with your fish being ill they are probably easier to catch

Oh dear...

2 Pink Kissers - Gourami species may fight
2 Dwarf Emerald Gourami - Gourami species may fight
1 ID Shark - GROWS TO 4', should not be in any aquarium unless it is like 20ft x 10ft x 10ft, shoals too if i'm correct.
1 Channel Cat - Grows to 2' 4", Should only be with huge cichlids and prefers a temperature of 12-21C. WILL SCOFF ANY FISH IT CAN FIT IN IT'S BIG MOUTH.

1 Pink Kisser (to replace the one that died) - As above
2 Dalmation Molly - Will get eaten if shark and catfish grow.
6 Neon Tetra - Will get eaten even if shark and catfish don't grow.
1 Electric Blue Crayfish - Will catch your fish and devour them.
1 Pleco - Probably way to big for your tank.

I'll give you ideas of how big your shark and cat get.

A 2ft or 3ft would barely even fit these at full size, especially the shark.

Ok thanks... everything seems to be getting better!! I went back to the fish store about my tank being green... told me to do a water change and keep my lights off for a couple of days!! Not to add any fish until then...

This is what I have left:

ID Shark
Channel Cat
2 Neon Tetras-One went missing!!
1 Pink Kisser
2 Dwarf Gourami-They seem to be the only ones not being injured... and the calm ones too!
1 Dalmation Molly
1 Electric Blue Crayfish

Is this still to much?? The guy at the place also told me not to take out the cray... just not to get anymore of the bottom feeders!! Says it's to much extra work to have another tank just for the Cray...

He's probibly been eaten, but by whom, is the question.....There are three likely candidates. I would advise you to tank take back the crayfish, as they will eat other fish, if presented with the opertunity, the ID shark, as the tank is too small for it, the pink kissers, as above they can be agressive, and at a foot in lenght full grown, they are also too large. The channel cat should also be moved of, due to its excesive full grown size.

I would also surgest that the pleco may get too large. There are a few, however, that would be fine in a 29g, so I'd post a pic of him in the catfish section for an id, and take things from there.

The dalmation molly and the two dwarf gorami should be fine, as they are small, and won't pick on eachother, usualy. The dwarf gorami mals can be aggressive towards each other though, as well as similar shaped fish, so whatch them carefuly. Those that you are taking back will gve some serious store credit :hyper: to spend on better suited fish. Look mainly at the smaller stuff, with a max size of 4inches. Ask on the forum before pusrchase, as it would appear that your lfs don't know what they are doing, and I would gess that it was there advise that got you where you are now  Most forum members will agree that LFS staff should not be trusted untill they prove themselves.

HTH, and good luck getting this sorted

For a 29 gallon tank you should get rid of the ID shark and channel cat as they grow massive, and the cray fish as they should only be kept with larger fish if any fish at all so i would rehome that too. Personally i would also get rid of the kisser as 29 gallons is pushing it a bit when fully grown. That leaves the neons which i would add at least 6 more to the group, the dwarf gourami which are fine, the molly, could add a couple more of them.

Then i would get some fish for the bottom of the tank eg corydoras, khuli loach, zebra loach, and choose 6 of whichever type you prefer, and get a bristlenose plec, or some other small growing plec or even a few ottos for clean up.

That leaves you with gouramis at the top to middle, neons and mollys in the middle, corys / loaches on the bottom and the small plec stuck on the sides lol.

just my 2p worth

The ID shark, channel catfish, and crayfish need to go now. No questions asked. Probably the pink kissing gouramis as well. They're all going to get way too large and aggressive for your tank.

The tetras, dwarf gouramis, and molly are fine, but I'd add a few more tetras and mollies in the future so they aren't so lonely. You can get some cory cats for the bottom if you want a little more life in that region of your tank.

The pleco should be fine I think, so long as he doesn't get up to a foot long like some species of them can.

OK Thanks everyone... and I am SOOOO confused!! I get the removal of the my shark, catfish and cray... but the kisser??? Right now other then my one dwarf gourami and my tetras the kisser is the next smallest and I was told he is also a dwarf kisser as well!! Not very big... more stunted the the kissers I had before and that he wouldnt grow at all... Am I thinking of a wrong fish??

Ok So I went back online to find what type of Kisser I had... it's a balloon Pink Kisser!

The kisser will not grow to the same size as the usual kind, but should still grow to a reasonable size, not a dwarf as such. Its the same with mollys and balloon mollys, there are balloon rams available now too seems to be a new trend balloon fish lol, i prefer the normal shape myself but i do have a couple of balloon molys.
