So far have had no sucess with plants.

I'm planning on getting a new Evasion Column 50 soon which is 150 litres.

I would like a well planted tank so I'm planning on 2 cm deep of Tetra Plant Substrate.

I'm also going to use the Hydor basic CO2 system.

Do I need anything else?

If I have a CO2 system should I use airstones to circulate oxygen for the fish??????

I wouldnt add an air stone if you are using CO2 as this will drive the co2 out of the water.

Dont know much about the substrate you are using. You may need to add ferts but maybe wait for someone more experienced to come along and reply.

Aim for a substrate depth of 5cm minimum.

Plant heavily with fast growers initially i.e. over 75% of substrate covered. This will prevent algae. (see pinned algae thread for details).

1.7wpg is fine. Aim for 20-35ppm (mg/l) CO2 for best results. You may need two yeast-based CO2 units.

Good luck.

I am planning to have 5.8 kg of substrate in a 50 cm x 50 cm tank (60 cm high - 150 litres) then adding small dorset gravel. How many kilos of gravel is needed? I want a total depth of about 3 inches. Is this enough?

I'm going to have 2 x 30 whatt bulbs.
