So I just came to the conclusion that I need to buy yet another tank...for all of my balloon molly and guppy fry that are taking up all the space in my ten gallon tank. It will be a 20 maybe 30 gallon. However, since I just spend over 200 dollars in the past few weeks just on my TEN gallon I would prefer not to spend too much on this one, but I still want it to look nice and natural. I want to do playsand, driftwood, and some live plants. In my ten gallon in the back I have a special type of fertilized fluval substrate for rooting plants, but as that was rather expensive, I don't want to do that in this tank. What plants do y'all suggest for me that I could put into this low tech tank? If I wanted rooted plants, could I put gravel just where I want those plants to be and sand everywhere else, maybe stick some hornwort or something in the sandy areas? I want as much variety as I can get, so please, suggest away! 
I am also not planning on using CO2 or dosing with ferts, but I will dose with ferts if necessary
