Scientists have discovered that the clouded leopard found on the islands of Borneo and Sumatra is an entirely new species of cat. The secretive rainforest animal was originally thought to be the same species as the one found in mainland Southeast Asia Neofelis nebulosa.

the new species is described as Neofelis diardi.

so Who said a leopard can never change its spots was wrong Smile

Yay the first post in this new forum,
thanks William and team. :good:

Fantastic, those "deepest, darkest, Borneo" quotes were right! all the other stuff they found too!

Scientists have discovered at least 52 new species of animals and plants on the southeast Asian island of Borneo since 2005, including a catfish with protruding teeth and suction cups on its belly to help it stick to rocks

I want to see a picture of that!

does now, thanks for pointing out the error

Absolutely beautiful!
I sat and watched the video a couple of days ago and it was amazing, the markings on it are great.
Does anyone know if it is likely to be a protected species?

many big cat species are endangered but there are also many levels of endangerment
for an explanation of those levels see IUCN redlist
