i bought a platy today and was hoping my swordtail and mollie would welcome her into the tank with open arms, lol. But instead they've been chasing and nipping her. The platy seems really shy, maybe that's her nature or maybe case she's new and she hasn't nipped back and is basically hiding from the other two. I'm just wondering if the two fish will finally accept her, anyone had a similiar situation? I'm afraid that I won't be sleeping much tonight, checking on her every hour

Well, if the swordtail is a male, maybe it is mating

They should except her after about a day and if not, I think you should get a separate tank or return the fish

Swordtails do tend to be aggressive
Mollies not as much but if it is a male.....

thanks for responding. yeah, the swordtail did try to mate with her but right now he's just chasing her around. i guess i'll see how things are in the morning but i really hope they'll all become friends because i don't want to return the platy

Try to re-arrange the plants and any ornaments you may have. I ALWAYS do this right before I get new fish. This way the established ones are dis oriented and have to re-establish their territories. Then when you introduce the new fish, the older ones are trying so hard to figure out where they are they have litle time to notice the newcomers. This works for me all the time.

Thanks. I'll remember that. Today, everything seems fine. I think the platy got used to get new surroundings and no one seems to be bothering her anymore :)
