I got 6 new auloncara maisoni juviniles today and I noticed that they are some what picky eaters. I have been giving my laidos flake food and they seem to love it they are all about the same size. I don't know alot but everything that I have read says that they both have similar diets in that they will take flake food and since they are small I don't want to interduce frozen foods just yet. will they get out of this funk that they are in?

ask the lfs or whoever you got them from what kind of food they were eating. mix that and the food you want to feed them half and half slowly decreasing the amount of food they are accustommed to. or just continue to feed them the neew food. a mouthbreeder can go without food for three weeks while holding, so don't worry about them starving. just make sure that you remove any excess food from the tank after they are through either eating it or not eating it.

As semper said you can ask the source you got them from what they were feeding them (good bet it was flake).

IMO they will eventually eat the flake. I would not start them of on frozen, even if that was what the person you got them from was feeding them.

Another option is to not feed the fish in the tank anything for several days. This will allow them to work up an appetite.

Also, whenever I bring in new fish I don't even try to feed them for 24 hours. There is an acclimation period when the fish are stressed out from being netted, placed in a plastic bag, placed in a outer bag, placed in a car for a bumpy ride home then dumped into unfamilar surroundings!!!!

Give them time, they will eventually eat....

By the way I have 7 wild A. maisoni myself. I think I may have all females though as none of them have colored up yet!!

I noticed last night that I have one or two that has kind of a blue sheen to it when it isn't in direct light. but it will be interesting to see them get all grown up.

okay so it has been a few days since I got my new fish, and I already love them. there are 6 A.Maisoni and 6 Labidos in a 55 gallon tank they are all about the same size so that will make it all that much more interesting. I have noticed thought that while the Maisoni tend to form a school and swim around there are three of my labs that tend to stay in the same area like they are advertisitning it as theirs. each one has a cave and they just sit there.

i don't know much about the auloncara but i believe they're open water swimmers  and if "Labidos"are the yellow labs then yeah they are proly guarding their territory.

sound like a really nice setup, you got any pics? :D

okay most has asked to see some pics of my tank. this is the deal it is the same general set up as it was when I had my pirhanas but with some minor changes it now houses some cichlids. you can find the pics under pics of my 55gal in my living room
