:D I got two pairs of bettas from a breeder yesterday. Oh gosh, I'm in love with them! I got a pair of Steel Blue Melano Genos and two Opaque White youngsters! I'm really excited cause I've been interested in breeding for a while and now I have *almost* everything I need for my first spawn.

Enough talking, here are the pics..

I named this girl Karen

And finally, this is Will. His colors are way off in this picture. He's much prettier in person. :D

And now for my question.. I noticed that my steel blue boy has been acting lethargic. He doesn't move much. He pretty much swims to the top only to get air. He was fine at the breeder's and I took my time acclimating them. I couldn't think of why he would be like that then I realized that it was probably because of what my brother did. He was opening the bag and, being a complete idiot, accidentally dropped the bag on the table. The boy was still inside the bag, btw. Is there anything I can do to help him? I hate seeing him like this.. he won't even flare for the mirror. I was actually hoping that he'd be the daddy of my first spawn.

Thanks in advance :)

He has massive fins. That tends to slow them down. Don't worry too much, I'm sure it would just be the shock of the move and the fin size. He'll perk up later on.

Remember to give them plenty of time befor breeding.

They're gorgeous!! Gotta love those names! And hopefully your boy will perk up soon. Give him a week or so to calm down and get used to his new surroundings.

Lots and lots of snaps. Then there is that one. :D

There are some things that can help get that one: the way you angle the camera from the light, the surrounding lights, that one serendipitous shot where the fish pauses and you have clicked. :D Knowing the settings on your camera.

Not to send you away, but reading the pinned items in the photo forum is an education. Some of the members here know how to get the fish to pose and just the right backgrounds and lighting.

I think mostly it's just taking lots and lots of pics. Not every one is a winner.

A Will and Grace fan, are you? haha Nice fish! :)

haha, how could you tell? Yeah.. I love that show. It's hysterical.

Jack seems to be doing slightly better. He wouldn't flare for the mirror but he flared when I put Tom's tank next to his.. or at least, he tried. Poor guy. His fins are huge! The poor guy couldn't flare completely cause they were dragging him down.

I wish I had pretty females like those...especially the white one...GORGEOUS!!!

I love the white ones. That's what I promised myself (unless I find something prettier) if I do well on all my midterms!

We are all pulling for Jack.

Does he have something to sit on near the surface so he can rest. but still get air? I don't know much but I think it is helpful when they are having troubles to help conserve their energy.

Hey yoouu :hey:! It's really nice to see you posting here with those gawgeous Bettas of yours, Ashley. I'm so sorry Jack isn't feeling well. All of my Bettas who were shipped were not 100% until about a week after arriving, shipping is SUCH a stress to them. I wouldn't worry too much about dropping him, yes there's a slight chance it could've injured him, but most likely he'll just be a tiny bit freaked about it for a day or two. I admitedly have dropped a few of my Bettas... silly net-jumpers , which is why I use strictly scoops to move them around now!

You could maybe try keeping his water nice and warm to keep him comfortable, around 78* is perfect. Add a pinch of salt next WC, and if you ended up finding live plants, try throwing in a nice bunch of live plants. Honestly, ALL of my girls who were severely stressed after being shipped were bouncing around and totally colored up after I added Java Ferns to their tanks! It's a nice, safe place to hide and it helps keep their water clean. If not, a nice silk plant could also help him adjust. If he does have trouble getting to the surface, I agree that lowering his water could help. Hopefully he's just being a stinker, and he'll cheer up soon! He is verrry handsome!
