So I finally got a tank big enough to house cichlids! Yay! I did some research but there is just SO much to learn about them. So I was hoping you guys could help me narrow down my options a bit, and create some potential stock lists for me. I would like the maximum variety of colors please. If you could slip in some catfish (or any non-cichlid fish that would work, which I read is basically nothing, but who knows?) that would be great.

If you are giving me a mbuna stocking list, I really like the idea of having a small group of the yellow labs, and one acei (if possible)

With peacocks, I know nothing, expect that they are extremely beautiful. So go crazy with that list.

(OR can they be mixed?

I know I'm asking for a lot so to whoever answers me, thank you!

I wouldn't mix peacocks and mbuna personally.  I like a mix of peacocks and haplochromis species myself.  My tank is an all male tank and a tad overstocked for aggression.  If you want to keep different species an all male tank is the way to go.  They will still fight but not half as bad.

One thing for sure is to make sure you do a lot of research on them.  They need a specific diet and water ph.  African cichlids can be very challenging and also very rewarding...but mostly challenging

Oh I didn't know there was another type of africans....back to google!

I like haplochromis a lot.  My personal favorites of mine are the Deep Water and the Tangerine Tiger.

Whatever you go with, the nutrition part i highly recommend new life spectrum products!
in my opinion, the best food you can buy!

Yeah I've heard nothing but good about NLS. It's expensive but I'll give it a try!
