New 15 Gallon!

Tomorrow I'm picking up a new 15 Gallon tank, and will begin cycling prior to that. Any suggestions/ ideas of what to stock with?

Maybe a group of platies? They're really fun to keep. I loved mine. You could do a small group of female betta. Maybe some cool tetras or something. Now that I'm thinking about it, I might have to hurry and finish my stand construction so I can get another platy tank.

A natural planted tank would be nice with a small shoal of neon tetras? I think if done right it can be very effective, more than a more complex setup

A planted tank is a great idea... I'd add Trigonostigma espei rather than neons - for a couple reasons. 
 
Number one: They are hardier. 
 
Number two: They are a bit smaller, so you can have a few more, which with these fish is preferred.
