Hello All,
We are getting back into the game of keeping a fish aquarium and would like input or advice on recommendations on the best type of filtering systems. We’ve used bio wheel filters in the past on smaller tank setups with great success. Any and all input will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Fluval fx5 is good, got mine for my 120gish tank and it works fine:) alternatly you could go with 2 smaller filter's . the eheim pro 3 filters are good but they are pretty pricey.

Best is a matter of opinion...for a 125g, a FX5 is great value for money, otherwise Eheim's are :good:

x3 for the FX5. by far the best canister on the market.

you may also want to look into a wet/dry filter. either pre fab, or DIY.

Whether or not the FX5 will be good for you would depend on how well decorated the tank will be, as decorations impede the flow. If it's sparsely decorated, one would be OK. If you are going to decorate heavily, two inlets out outlets would be far better from a dead-zone perspective and avoiding detritus build-up. This means an inlet/outlet pipe set modification to the FX5, or two filters. Considering Fluvals rep up to now, despite the FX5 looking good for reliability ATM, I would not trust one not to break down sufficiently to run one alone on a tank of this size. I'd suggest for most 125g set-up's, a pair of FX5's, or a pair of Eheim 2080's. The best option by far however, would be a sump IMO

All the best
