People say that fish have very short memorys, and also the arguement about Nature versus Nuture. What do you think about this:-

Whenever I feed my fish dried bloodworms, my betta and my neons swim to the top and help themselves, however my Indian Glassfish for whatever reason seem reluctant to swim to the top and instead they try to snatch the worms out of the tetra's mouths.
To prevent this one of the tetra's swam into a small (too small for the glassfish) hole and ate his worm in peace and then repeated it again and again, and now all of the tetra's are copying him. Cool huh??

Also how do you tell a male tetra from a female one, and what are the indications that a female (obviously) one has a proverbial bun in the oven??

Cheers!! :alien:

found this for you hope it helps!

(you can easily tell the slender males from the bulkier,
larger females,visibly swollen with eggs)

In sexually mature fish, the females are larger, rounder, and fatter. From above, the female appears wider. There is a rule that some people believe is true and other aquarists say no way it is true. Some say that the male neon tetra has a straight stripe while the female has a crooked one

Sexing in neon tetras is not difficult. Mature males are more slender with a stright blue neon line. Females ,on the other hand, have a more rounded body ( like most egg bearers) and have a blue neon line that has a curve

At least two of my neons are female then and they seem to have swollen bellies. Does that mean I will be expected the tiny patter of tiny fins?

If so, what is the usual gestation period before eggs are lain, and how long before they hatch, I don't really want to breed but hey accidents happen if one isn't careful

Jus't don't tell the CSA. :fun:

cant say on that im affraid not had neons for years. im sure someone here can help more.....

I've got neons, male and female, but they live in a community tank and all eggs get eaten before they even hatch :( In all the time I've had neons, I've never once had neon fry :( Someone else may be able to help on your question

:( I'm afraid you have no chance of neon fry, if they do spawn (they need soft/acid water) either the eggs or fry will be eaten very quickly. Mac.
